Colombian Wood Catfish
The Driftwood catfish or Colombian Wood catfish is a peaceful, nocturnal, bottom-dwelling fish that originated in South America.
They are ideally kept in a school of three to six. They are a large-growing fish that may reach 27cm. Drift wood catfish are omnivorous and graze on driftwood, eat live blackworms, crickets, brine shrimp plus algae, sinking pellets and algae wafers.
They are fascinating fish with a vertically oriented caudal fin, long dorsal spine and whiskers on their chin. They are active and not shy. Their head is unusually flattened and they have a bulging throat - which is normally not attractive in a human but oddly endearing in a catfish.
A 500-litre aquarium is recommended as they grow rapidly.
24-28ºC water is suitable.
They are generally peaceful but if there are small fish or shrimp available they may be devoured.
