Platinum Gouramis are very eye-catching fish. Gouramis are good beginner tropical fish. They are generally peaceful and suitable for community aquariums. Occasionally, males can become aggressive toward other similar-sized, colourful fish, that they mistake for other males.Â
They are related to Bettas and make similar bubble nests - you may be lucky enough to breed some fry but they are easy targets for community fish and a separate breeding aquarium is recommended if you are keen.Â
They may reach 15cm in good growing conditions so are suitable for larger aquariums. They have lovely long fins which may be targeted by other fin-nipping fish such as Tiger-Barbs. Â
Gouramis are air breathers and need good access to the water surface. The can gain oxygen by taking mouthfuls of air into their Labyrinth. They benefit from a generously planted aquarium and enjoy regular water changes.Â
They are omnivores who benefit from a varied diet. They enjoy Tropical Flake Food, Algae Wafers and Spirulina Flakes.
